At Carseldine Village, we pride ourselves on being more than just a place to live—we’re a thriving, connected community that celebrates people of all ages. One of the shining examples of this is the Intergenerational Program that C&K Carseldine Community Childcare Centre and Rockpool Residential Aged Care have developed in partnership, to help bring together some of the 150 residents of Rockpool, and the 98 children enrolled in C&K.
This initiative isn’t just about bringing generations together; it’s about fostering a sense of shared purpose, mutual respect, and meaningful interaction. By carefully designing spaces and programs that connect our youngest and most senior community members, our precinct partners are creating something truly special.
A Thoughtful Design for True Connection
At Carseldine Village, we believe community programs should be intentional and impactful and the Intergenerational Program has been carefully crafted to ensure everyone benefits from this unique experience. Key elements include:
- Educating children about ageing through thoughtful discussions, preparing them for their interactions with their “Grandfriends.”
- Designing inclusive environments to ensure everyone feels comfortable and supported.
- Consistency in connection, with reciprocal visits every Tuesday and Thursday, creating familiarity and trust.
- A dedicated Intergenerational Pedagogical Liaison Officer, reflecting commitment to nurturing these relationships.
Mutual Growth and Enrichment
This isn’t just a social activity—it’s a transformative experience for everyone involved. The “Grandfriends” share their wisdom, skills, and life stories, enriching the children’s learning journey. In return, the children bring energy, joy, and curiosity, creating moments of laughter, nostalgia, and discovery for their older friends.
